Ladies in Black

This musical is set in Sydney in 1959, a city caught between the stuffy repression of the 50’s and the glorious liberation of the 60’s. It tells the story of bright-eyed, bookish school leaver Lisa who joins the sales staff of the city’s most prestigious department store, F.G. Goodes, where she finds her world opening to exciting new possibilities as she befriends the colourful characters of the Ladies Frocks Department – including her new mentor, the exotic Magda. With its irreverent humour and great charm, Ladies in Black is a magical fairy-tale sure to leave you singing long after you leave the theatre.

Les Misérables

Ararat Musical Comedy Society is very excited to be putting on Les Misérables in June 2019. This international smash-hit may be the most popular musical in the world. In 19th century France, Jean Valjean is released from 19 years of unjust imprisonment, but finds nothing in store for him but mistrust and mistreatment. He breaks his parole in hopes of starting a new life, initiating a life-long struggle for redemption as he is relentlessly pursued by police inspector Javert, who refuses to believe Valjean can change his ways. Finally, during the Paris student uprising of 1832, Javert must confront his ideals after Valjean spares his life and saves that of the student revolutionary who has captured the heart of Valjean’s adopted daughter. His world-view shattered, Javert commits suicide, and Valjean at last attains the peace he has sought for so long.
Epic, grand and uplifting, LES MISRABLES packs an emotional wallop that has thrilled audiences all over the world. The sung-through pop opera is ideal for a cast of exceptional singers and overflows with melodies that are already standards. A spectacle on Broadway and in London, LES MISRABLES is equally effective with a minimal set; it is its powerful affirmation of the human spirit that has made LES MISRABLES a popular masterpiece. Aladdin Jr

Music by: Alan Menken: Lyrics by: Howard Ashman and Tim Rice; Book Adapted and Additional Lyrics by: Jim Luigs: Music Adapted and Arranged by: Bryan Louiselle, Based on the Screenplay by Ron Clements and John Musker; Ted Elliot and Terry Rossio

Welcome to Agrabah, City of Enchantment, where every beggar has a story and every camel has a tail! The narrators enter to set the scene.

At the palace gates, townspeople eagerly await the arrival of the royal family — for at long last, today is the day they will learn who Princess Jasmine’s future husband will be! Among the “red carpet”-like atmosphere, we catch a glimpse of our hero, Aladdin, as well as the nefarious Grand Vizier, Jafar, and his conniving parrot, Iago.

Ah! Here comes the royal family! The Sultan begins to parade his perspective princes for his daughter, Jasmine, much to the crowd’s delight. Jasmine tells her father that she doesn’t want to marry any of these men. She wants to be the one deciding who she marries and when. The Sultan reminds her that the “law is the law,” and the law says she must marry a prince…by tomorrow.

Annie Get You Gun

The story of Annie Oakley is a truly remarkable one. For a Victorian woman to become a sharpshooter, (let alone the best in the world!) was an extraordinary achievement. Annie’s great skill, combined with her charming nature made her one of the best-loved Wild West characters of all time. That the real Annie Oakley was also a great philanthropist, a champion of women’s rights and a strong supporter of the Indigenous Americans makes her even more remarkable. At a time when women were viewed as chattels, and native Americans as a scourge, Annie Oakley broke all taboos, shot her way to financial independence and was adopted by the great Sioux Indian chief Sitting Bull. Was ever there a more deserving leading lady for a musical?

Joined to the new book in this 1999 Stone Revision, of course, is that amazing Irving Berlin score, featuring hit after hit after hit, including ‘There’s No Business Like Show Business’ and ‘Doin’ What Comes Naturally’.

Irving Berlin’s greatest achievement in the theatre” wrote the New York Post, ANNIE GET YOUR GUN “will always be a musical for the ages, one of the Broadway theatre’s enduring triumphs.”

Seussical Junior

Williamstown Musical Theatre Company is proud to present Seussical Junior running from the 9th to 25th June 2017 at the Williamstown Mechanics Institute Theatre.

Horton the Elephant, the Cat in the Hat and all of your favourite Dr. Seuss characters spring to life onstage in Seussical JR., a fantastical musical extravaganza from Tony-winners, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty.

Transporting audiences from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus, the Cat in the Hat narrates the story of Horton the Elephant, who discovers a speck of dust containing tiny people called the Whos. Horton must protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, and he must also guard an abandoned egg that’s been left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird.  Although Horton faces ridicule, danger and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him.  Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant!

“Oh, the thinks you can think” when Dr. Seuss’ best-loved characters collide and cavort in an unforgettable musical caper!”
